2 00 8 BES 3 time of flightmonitoring system

A Time of Flight monitoring system has been developed for BES3. The light source is a 442-443 nm laser diode, which is stable and provides a pulse width as narrow as 50 ps and a peak power as large as 2.6 W. Two optical-fiber bundles with a total of 512 optical fibers, including spares, are used to distribute the light pulses to the Time of Flight counters. The design, operation, and performance of the system are described.

With the assumption that the X(1835) and η(1760) recently observed by the BES Collaboration are the 3 1 S 0 meson states, the strong decays of these two states are investigated in the 3 P 0 decay model. We find that the predicted total widths of the X(1835) and η(1760) can be reasonably reproduced with the X(18350) − η(1760) mixing angle lying on the range q ¯ q members seems reasonable.
